AI note taking app
The AI note-taking app
that runs on your PC.
Capture voice memos, PDFs, web pages, screenshots and clipboard history. Serpaix links them into a private knowledge graph on your Windows PC and answers questions from those notes, even with the network off.
The short answer
What is an AI note-taking app?
An AI note-taking app uses a language model to do more than store text: it transcribes recordings, reads documents, links related notes and answers questions about what you wrote. Most of them run in the cloud.
Serpaix runs the app, the database and, optionally, the model on your own machine. Notes live in a local SQLite file encrypted with AES-256-GCM. That makes it practical to keep material you would never paste into a cloud workspace: client calls, interview transcripts, medical notes, unfinished ideas.
Three jobs, one library.
Capture what arrives. Connect it without manual filing. Ask questions and get an answer you can trace back to a source.
Capture
Eight input modes, from voice and PDF to email and screen. Import an existing Obsidian vault and keep your links.
Connect
Entity extraction, semantic similarity and temporal proximity build the graph. You do not write [[brackets]] by hand.
Ask
Hybrid search and graph-aware retrieval answer from your notes, with citations. Local Ollama keeps the whole loop on-device.
Capture notes in the form they arrive.
The best note-taking app is the one you do not have to open. Every mode below feeds the same local library.
Ask your notes. Get the source.
Search fuses keyword matching (BM25), vector similarity and graph traversal with adaptive weights. A question such as "what did I decide about pricing in the March call?" is answered from the transcript, and the answer cites the memory it used instead of paraphrasing the internet.
In the current beta, local models through Ollama are the supported path, so the answer is generated on your hardware. Ask in natural language, follow the citation, and fix a wrong note at the source.
Private by architecture, not by promise.
The Windows beta is offline-only. There is no cloud sync and no upload, so a capture cannot silently become a network request. Credit card numbers, SSNs, passwords and API keys are detected and redacted on-device before storage.
The source opens under the MIT License on January 1, 2027. Until then, the security page documents which primitive maps to which part of the codebase, and the benchmarks page publishes first-party measurements with a stated method.
How Serpaix compares to other note-taking apps.
A short, factual comparison. Every product is useful for something; the question is whether your notes should live on your machine and connect themselves.

Competitor details reflect their public documentation in October 2026. Serpaix ships as a free Windows beta; cloud sync, mobile apps and team features are roadmap. Read the full comparisons for Notion, Obsidian and Mem.
Questions people ask before switching.
Is Serpaix a note-taking app or an AI tool?
Both, but the order matters. Notes, files and recordings are the source of truth; the AI reads them locally and answers with citations. Serpaix is not a chatbot that forgets your context when the tab closes.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. The current Windows beta is offline-only: capture, search, the knowledge graph, spaced repetition and local AI through Ollama all work with the network disconnected. Signing in is the single online step, and it only issues a beta code.
Can I import notes from Obsidian or Evernote?
Yes. Obsidian vaults import with wiki-links and frontmatter preserved, and Markdown and Evernote ENEX files are supported. A native Notion importer is not part of the beta yet.
What does it cost?
The Windows beta is free, with no card and no subscription. Pro and Business plans are on the roadmap and are not charged during the beta. The source code opens under the MIT License on January 1, 2027.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows 10 and 11 today. macOS, Linux, iOS and Android are on the roadmap and are not available in the beta.
Keep the notes.
